Topwater Followers! By: Spiro Agouros
Hello everyone topwater fishing is one if my favorite ways to catch bass! But it can sometimes become extremely frustrating to watch fish come up look at the bait and not bite!!! Here is a couple of ways to help increase the odds in your favour, and help you catch those bass!
1. If a fish blows up on your bait extremely fast and misses your bait, that is a sign that the fish is aggressive and wants to eat but either you have the wrong colour, or size of bait and the fish is just trying to kill it, and ask questions later! In this instance i will reel in quickly away from the fish and recast, if it strikes again and does not eat it, I will always have a soft plastic bait tied on, such as a Worm or a soft plastic Minnow bait or perhaps a Flipping Jig and cast it to the area and this will usually work. One key thing to remember this bait should not be to big or heavy, you want it to seem like an easy meal. I use a 1/4 0r 3/8 wieght to help the presentation fall slower!
2.If you have a fish wich just follows your bait just kind of sitting there looking at it! and won't bite, you can do the same as the first tip. In some cases inactive but curious fish will hit it, but one thing that has worked for me and won me many tournaments is to increase the speed of my bait and keep it moving this will usaully cause the fish to bite out of instinct Hold On!
I hope this helps you catch those fish that wil come after your topwater but just wont commit!
